Your mind is your most fertile ground. Whatever you water it with will take root and sprout.

“Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.”

Not every successful person starts with a successful mindset. Most people start with a traditional mindset and put in the work. So how do you build a mindset of durability and resilience? Simplicity breeds success. If you are starting your mindset journey from the beginning, focus on these two things: repetition and influence.

Repetition and Influence to Build Your Mindset

Repetition: Think of your mindset as a muscle. If you go to the gym, you know you don’t pick up a weight once and suddenly have great biceps. Repetition is critical. If you want to work on becoming more positive or developing a stronger leadership mindset, practice truly makes perfect.

Start at ‘suck.’ Begin where you are and decide to learn and grow. Don’t think about things for so long that you allow yourself to be stopped by those thoughts. Whatever you want to work on, repeat it every day. In the beginning, you may fail a lot. But when you fail, fail forward. You will either win or learn, but either way, you’ve made progress. You cannot get great unless you start today and are willing to keep working at it.

Influence: There is good influence and bad influence. Whose words are you allowing to penetrate your thoughts? What words are you allowing to take root between your ears? People intentionally or unintentionally plant tiny seeds that can sprout and grow.

“Guard your mind; it is your most priceless possession.”

Every single person has at least one naysayer. People will have opposing viewpoints or may even try to actively hold you back. A successful person without a naysayer does not exist.

Will you allow someone else’s opinions, perceptions, or internal abilities to rob you of your better future?

Don’t let anyone derail you from what you can do. When those moments come, rebuke those words. Block them out and protect your mind at all costs.

However, be open to good influence. You need it! Good words and positivity can boost you up. Find a leader who is doing the things you want to do. Go actively pursue the things you want in this life. Find who will help you for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.

Learn One, Teach Three

Your good influences are all around. If you heard something great from a friend or read something inspiring, share it with three people. Share with your leaders or team and teach them what you’ve learned.

You have every single thing you need to succeed. Success is a decision. It is a decision to show up every day and do the things you need to do that day, whether you feel like it or not. Motivation will come and go, but if you do what you need to do every day, success will come. Learn it until you live it.
